What is readtogather?
It is a play on words with the English terms ‘together’ and ‘gather’. The goal is simple. We read and we gather to exchange opinions and points of view about the story. This promotes literary awareness. I invite you and your child to explore literature together.

What do the characters think? What feelings are portrayed? Why do they behave this way? Do they act as they really are, or do they try to contradict themselves and their own nature? Why? Or why not?

Why pro-nature literature?
Pro-nature literature gives animals a valuable voice.
When children — and adults — identify with the characters in a story, they also begin to see the animals and insects that appear in it from a personal perspective. They begin to treat them with more sensitivity, wanting to observe and protect them. When they see these animals in nature, they associate them with the story and its personified characters. This creates a certain closeness, puts fear into perspective and, as a result, has a positive and, hopefully, lasting effect on the protection of their habitats.
The aim of these stories is to raise awareness of animals and insects that are uncommon in literature and thereby sensitise and motivate readers to protect and preserve the places where these animals live.
Ponds are a very diverse and extremely important habitat. They are an essential ecosystem, home to a huge diversity of plants and animals. Sadly, people don't often realise how important they are.

Author
Marco Reilly was born on 7 January 1974 in Luanda, Angola. In 1975, he moved to Brazil and lived for a year in Santos, near São Paulo. At the age of three, he moved to Portugal. He attended school in Portugal and studied Modern Languages and Literature at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. In 2003, he completed his studies as a teacher and educator. Marco Reilly has been a teacher at a state school in Berlin since 2004. Marco Reilly also taught Portuguese as a foreign language at the Free University of Berlin.
What makes me tick!
As a child, I found ponds and their inhabitants fascinating. Back then, I could spend hours watching these tiny creatures go about their daily activities. This fascination, my literary studies and more than two decades of teaching experience had a profound impact on me and motivated me to write these stories. In 2015, I began writing for children. After eight years of refining my first stories in linguistic and literary terms, The fable of The Frog and the Goat was published in February 2023 in Portuguese, German, and English. In 2024, The Queen Bummblebee and the Water strider was published in Portuguese and English. In early 2026, this story was published in German.
In my stories, I blend the literary style of modern fables with philosophical thought and social behaviour. The characters experience situations that children encounter in their daily lives. They show how to deal with challenges, conflicts, and strong emotions. Humorous and poetic moments throughout the story make reading more exciting and relieve the tension of both characters and readers.
